ABOUT ZEST DANCE STUDIO'S
Within our studio we aim to offer a varied timetable of classes with the ethos of producing more than just a dancer, students are encouraged to train in gymnastics, singing and performing arts.
The academy has a large and very strong competition team which competes in several local competitions a year. The academy also aims to ensure all students are given the chance to perform at events throughout the year to showcase their work and build confidence in their abilities.
With the addition of Daniel Jones Ballet UK now based at our student students are given access to a level of classical training not offered by any other school in the area with classes taken by Daniel Jones ex soloist English National Ballet and the opportunity to perform at events across the country including Move It Dance .
The age range of our students is 1 year to 51 years which reinforces our belief in providing a positive dance experience for all whether that be for fun or whether training for a professional career on the stage.
THE HISTORY OF ZEST
The Shona Boocock Academy of Dance was established in July 2004 by the current Principal Shona Stringer in a local church hall with only 3 students all aged 3. The academy steadily grew offering all students the opportunity to take exams with the International Dance Teachers Association.
In November 2006 the academy produced its first show and has continue to produce one show each year since then, in recent years this has progressed to two a year plus many performances at local events within the community.
In May 2010 the Academy moved to its own studio within Woodkirk Valley Country Club and ZEST Dance Studios was launched. Now offering additional classes such as gymnastics, singing, fitness and performing arts.
5 years later in May 2015 ZEST Dance Studios moved to the unit next door which now provides us with a parents waiting are, changing facilities, 2 large studios and a costume department.
Miss Shone now overseeing a team of fully qualified teaching staff continues to grow the academy and improve the facilities for all students.
Meet Our Principal
Miss Shona began dancing at the age of 2 following in her older sisters footsteps. Miss Shona trained at the Keldon School of Dance where She then went on to teach at for several years prior to opening the academy Miss Shona with the help of her teacher Miss Julie and Dear Mum.
Her strong beliefs that all students should be given their time to shine continues to this day and so the academy produces two shows a year.
In 2014 Miss Shona appeared in channel 4s Big Ballet and as part of this trained with Monica Loughman and Wayne Sleep where she danced as the part of both a swan and within the Mazurka in Wayne Sleeps Swan Lake. This opportunity lead the dancers involved to meet with Daniel Jones ex soloist English National Ballet and to this day Miss Shona continues to train and perform as part of Daniel Jones Ballet UK along with her daughter and several students from the academy.
